This was one my mom would make for my sister's birthday. It has a fudgy candy-like frosting on top.

I remember terrific peanut butter cakes from my childhood...and this one ranks right up there with them!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup peanut butter, creamy
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 cups all purpose flour, sifted
  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 3 - eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • FROSTING
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup milk
  • 18 ounces peanut butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

How To Make peanut butter cake

  • Step 1
Cream peanut butter, shortening and sugar.
  • Step 2
Add eggs and vanilla. Mix well.
  • Step 3
Alternate sifted flour with baking powder and milk
  • Step 4
Pour into greased 9x13 pan. (I typically spray with Pam) Bake at 350 degrees until done (start testing with toothpick at 25 min)
  • Step 5
FROSTING: Cook milk and sugar to soft ball stage; add vanilla; add peanut butter; stir to spreading consistency. Beat until it starts to lose its gloss. If too thick, add a little milk 1 T. at a time. If too thin, add peanut butter. Spread on cooled cake. (this is a fudge type frosting and is as thick as the picture shows)
