This recipe comes from a 1968 recipe book titled,"Favorite Recipes From Church of GOD Ladies". Each of the recipes has the ladies' name and home town and I will include this with the recipe and if you know or are related to this person, I would really like to know. The recipes I post from this cookbook are ones I have tried and really like or are unusual due to ingredients or possibly due to the number of recipes with the same name but are different in some way. I hope you enjoy.
I know some the recipes are really lacking in some or all areas, but I am posting them as they are in the cookbook

Ingredients

CAKE:

3 c
sifted flour
6 Tbsp
cocoa
2 tsp
baking soda
1 tsp
salt
2 c
sugar
12 Tbsp
mazola oil
2 Tbsp
vinegar
2 tsp
vanilla

CAKE TOPPING:

1/2 c
sugar
1 1/2 Tbsp
cornstarch
2 Tbsp
cocoa
dash(es)
of salt
1 c
water
1 1/2 Tbsp
butter
1 tsp
vanilla

How to Make Pan Handy Cake

Step-by-Step

  • 1CAKE:

    Mix first 5 ingredients in mixing bowl;
  • 2Add remaining ingredients.
  • 3Pour 2 cups cold water over all and stir until well blended.
  • 4Bake at 350 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes.
  • 5CAKE TOPPING:

    Mix sugar, cornstarch, cocoa, salt and water together.
  • 6Cook until thickened.
  • 7Remove from heat; add butter and vanilla. Mix well.
  • 8Spread hot topping on hot cake.
