baker's german sweet chocolate
1/2 c
boiling water
1 c
2 c
eggs, separated
1 tsp
2 c
all purpose flour
1 tsp
baking soda
1 tsp
1 c
coconut-pecan frosting

How to Make Original German Sweet Chocolate Cake


  • 1Melt chocolate in water; cool.
  • 2Cream butter and sugar.
  • 3Beat in egg yolks.
  • 4Stir in vanilla and chocolate.
  • 5Mix flour, soda and salt.
  • 6Beat in flour mixture, alternately with buttermilk.
  • 7Beat egg whites until stiff peaks form; fold into batter.
  • 8Pour batter into three 9-inch layer pans, lined on bottoms with waxed paper.
  • 9Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until cake springs back when lightly pressed in center.
  • 10Cool 15 minutes; remove and cool on rack.
  • 11Frost cake.
