My grandpa use to make this on special occasions. This cake takes a little while to bake - but it is well worth the wait. It is a rich cake BUT so good.

Ingredients
- 4 - eggs
- 1 cup butter
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking soda
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 3 1/2 cups flour
- 1 can coconut flakes
- 1 pound orange slice candies, chopped
- 1 pound dates, chopped
- 2 cups pecans, chopped
- TOPPING -
- 1 cup unsweetened orange juice
- 2 cups confectioners' sugar
How To Make orange slice cake

Step 1Preheat oven: 275 degrees....Grease & flour tube pan; set aside.

Step 2In large bowl: cream butter & sugar, add eggs 1 at a time; beat well. Dissolve baking soda & buttermilk in a small dish; add to creamed mixture.

Step 3In another large bowl: add flour, dates, nuts, coconut & candies; stir ingredients around so they are all coated with the flour. Slowly add the flour mixture to the creamed mixture & - MIX WITH HAND!

Step 4Put in prepared tube pan -- Bake for 2 1/2 to 3 hours. DO NOT REMOVE FROM PAN!!

Step 5TOPPING - Combine orange juice & confectioners sugar & pour over "HOT" cake. Let cake sit in pan over night.
