My grandpa use to make this on special occasions.

This cake takes a little while to bake - but it is well worth the wait.

It is a rich cake BUT so good.

Ingredients

4
eggs
1 c
butter
2 c
sugar
1 Tbsp
baking soda
1/2 c
buttermilk
3 1/2 c
flour
1 can(s)
coconut flakes
1 lb
orange slice candies, chopped
1 lb
dates, chopped
2 c
pecans, chopped

TOPPING -

1 c
unsweetened orange juice
2 c
confectioners' sugar

How to Make ORANGE SLICE CAKE

Step-by-Step

  • 1Preheat oven: 275 degrees....Grease & flour tube pan; set aside.
  • 2In large bowl: cream butter & sugar, add eggs 1 at a time; beat well.

    Dissolve baking soda & buttermilk in a small dish; add to creamed mixture.
  • 3In another large bowl: add flour, dates, nuts, coconut & candies; stir ingredients around so they are all coated with the flour.

    Slowly add the flour mixture to the creamed mixture
    & - MIX WITH HAND!
  • 4Put in prepared tube pan --

    Bake for 2 1/2 to 3 hours. DO NOT REMOVE FROM PAN!!
  • 5TOPPING -

    Combine orange juice & confectioners sugar & pour over "HOT" cake.

    Let cake sit in pan over night.
