my great-grandmother's recipe from Hungary they were dairy farmers so there always was milk on hand to skim the top for cream & to make into butter & sour cream so this was her favorite cake to make not your customary fuffy dry cake but a decadent sweet melt in your mouth apple cake & every farm had fruit trees they lived off the land it was quick to put together after a long day milking cows & taking care of farm chores as they also raised turkeys & she had 16 children to tend to coming to America in 1904 bringing the recipe with her a simple apple cake easy & delicious ...

Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cups flour
  • 1 1/4 cups sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 6 medium peeled ,cored & sliced apples
  • 1 1/2 sticks melted butter
  • 2 - eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup sour cream

How To Make oma's apple cake

  • Step 1
    Butter 9 x 11 " baking dish then mix Flour , 3/4 c. of sugar, salt, baking powder together then mix with sliced apples & place in dish. then...
  • Step 2
    Beat the 2 eggs till foamy mix in 1/2 c. sugar 1 tsp. vanilla & the 1/2 c. sour cream & the melted butter blend together well & spread over over apple mixture.
  • Step 3
    Bake at 400* about 35 to 40 minutes till golden & done. Smells wonderful & so tasty.
