I sent for this cookbook many years ago.It was on the radio on a cook show. I have made this a few times.This is one of my husbands favorites.

Ingredients

Add to Grocery List

1 c
water
1 c
seedless raisins
1/2 c
salad oil
1 c
sugar
1
egg,lightly beaten
1 3/4 c
sifted flour
1/4 tsp
salt
1 tsp
baking soda
1 tsp
cinnamon
1 tsp
nutmeg
1 tsp
ground alspice
1/2 tsp
ground cloves
1/2 c
chopped nuts

How to Make Old Fashioned Spice Squares

Step-by-Step

  • 1Combine water and raisins.Bring to boil,remove from heat and stir in salad oil. Cool to lukewarm.
  • 2Add sugar and egg.
  • 3Sift dry ingredients together and beat into raisin mixture.Add nuts.
  • 4Pour into greased 13x9 pan and bake in 375 oven for 25 minutes.
  • 5When cool,cut into squares.Frost with butter frosting.
