My mother used to make this for my birthday, because I LOVE chocolate cake. And this recipe is one of my favorites for chocolate cake.

Ingredients
- 3/4 cup butter, softened
- 1-2/3 cup sugar
- 3 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1-1/2 cup all purpose flour
- 1/2 cup whole wheat flour
- 2/3 cup baking cocoa
- 1-1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1-1/3 cup water
- 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 2/3 cup fat-free, evaporated milk

Step 1Heat oven to 350. Spray 2- 9" round baking pans w/ cooking spray. In lg bowl, combine butter, sugar, eggs and vanilla. Beat on high w/ mixer for 3 mins.

Step 2In another bowl, combine flours, baking cocoa, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Add alternately w/ water to butter mix. Beat just until combined. Pour evenly into pans. Bake 30-35 min, or until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. cool.

Step 3Remove cooled cakes from pans. Place chocolate chips in microwaveable bowl. Microwave on high for 1-1/2 mins, stir. Microwave and stir until smooth. Whisk in powdered sugar and milk until smooth. Frost cakes.
