Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons butter, softened
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 - egg
- 1/2 cup dark molasses (or 3/4 cup light molasses)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon ginger, ground
- 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon, ground
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup hot water
- 1/2 cup Fat-Free Cool Whip, optional
How To Make old-fashioned molasses cake

Step 1Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. In a small bowl, beat the butter and sugar until crumbly, about 2 minutes.

Step 2Beat in the egg.

Step 4In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, and salt.

Step 5Add to the butter mixture alternately with the water, mixing well after each addition.

Step 6Transfer to a 9-in. square baking pan coated with cooking spray.

Step 7Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean.
