This is a recipe that has been handed down from my great great great grandmother and my family has loved it for more than 150 years.

1 1/4 cups boiling water
1 cup oatmeal
1 cup sugar
1 cup brown sugar
1 stick margarine
2 - eggs
1 1/3 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon vanilla
- topping
1 stick margarine
1 cup brown sugar
2 - eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup coconut

How To Make oatmeal cake

Step 1

Mix oatmeal and boiling water. Let stand for 20 minutes

Step 2

Cream together sugar,brown sugar,margarine and eggs mix with the oatmeal
Step 3

add flour,salt,baking soda, and vanilla
Step 4

bake in a 9 by 13 by 2 pan at 350 for 35 to 40 minutes
Step 5

Next make up the topping margarine,brown sugar,eggs,coconut,and vanilla
Step 6

spread on top of cake and bake under the broiler for 5 minutes!
