From the magical ziplock bag of Gramma Stevens', here comes another of her wonderful treats. I remember the smell of this cake baking up north in the cottage. Us kids would have ice cream and the adults would have this cake. Us kids, if we timed it right, would get a bite from mom or dad, if we were lucky. It's not very big on size, but big on taste. Enjoy ~

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 1 - egg, unbeaten
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 5 medium apples, peeled and chopped med. fine
  • 1 cup walnuts, chopped

How To Make no icing apple cake

  • Step 1
    Cream shortening and sugar, till fluffy with electric mixer. Add unbeaten egg and apples and mix by hand with a spoon, not electric mixer.
  • Step 2
    Sift flour, cinnamon and baking soda together. Add to apple mix, stir with spoon to mix. Add nuts and mix just till incorporated.
  • Step 3
    Pour into greased and floured cake pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 min. Top of cake will have a crunchy topping requiring no icing. Enjoy~
