My mother-in-law's family recipe traditionally given to all new brides in the family.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 - eggs
  • 2 teaspoons soda in:
  • 1/2 cup sour milk (sweet milk/1 tbs vinegar)
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa (heaping)
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • ICING
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa
  • 1/2 cup cream
  • 1 cup marshmallows, mini
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

How To Make mother's devils food cake

  • Step 1
    Cream butter and sugar.
  • Step 2
    Add eggs and milk and vanilla. Mix flour & cocoa and add to creamed mixture. Add boiling water. mix.
  • Step 3
    Bake in a tube pan or 9X13 pan for 40 to 45 minutes at 350.
  • Step 4
    Prepare Icing: on stove in saucepan add all icing ingredients. Heat to firm ball, let cool, then beat smooth.
