Ingredients

  • 4 c
    all purpose flour
  • 2 tsp
    baking soda
  • 3 tsp
    cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp
    all spice
  • 2 tsp
    cloves
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 2 c
    sugar
  • 1 c
    shortening, butter flavor
  • 2
    eggs
  • 4 Tbsp
    molasses
  • 2 c
    buttermilk or sour milk
  • 4 Tbsp
    melted butter
  • 2 Tbsp
    flour
  • 8 Tbsp
    sugar
  • 1 tsp
    cinnamon

How to Make Mother's Crumb Cake

Step-by-Step

  1. Mix together dry ingedients, work in shortening until crumbly.
  2. Mix together the eggs, molasses and buttermilk. Add to dry miture. Mix. Grease adn flour a large cake pan (larger than a 9x13). Pour mixture into pan.
  3. Mix together 2 tbsp of flour, 8 tbsp sugar, and 1 tsp of cinnamon. Melt 4 tbsp of butter. Pour the butter over the cake. Sprinkle the dry ingedients over the butter.
  4. Bake at 350 for 45 to 50 minutes.
