Mom's Chocolate Scratch Mocha Layered Cake
1/2 cshortning (crisco)
3 tspbaking powder
6 Tbspcocoa powder
1 1/4 cmilk
1 tspvanilla extract
2 1/4 cap flour
2 cpowdered sugar
2 Tbspcocoa powder
2 Tbspshorting (crisco)
·hot coffee (strong) enough to melt crisco start with 3 tbsp
How to Make Mom's Chocolate Scratch Mocha Layered Cake
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Seperate egg yolks from whites set whites aside.
Cream shortning vanilla and sugar add add egg yolks and milk by hand.
- in a seperate bowl sift flour, baking powder and cocoa. add dry ingreedients to wet a little at a time.
- fluff egg whites to soft peaks then fold into batter.
Divide and pour batter into two round cake pans
Bake for 30 minutes.
Caution: Be sure to not disurb cakes they can fall!!
Let cool before icing cake.
- To make mocha icing: mix shortning with hot coffee then add powder sugar and cocoa if too thin add a little more powder sugar.
