mom's chocolate scratch mocha layered cake
This is the cake all me and my sisters requested for our birthdays. I grew up in a house with 4 sisters me being the youngest and this cake was one the best memories of my childhood! i hope you try it and enjoy!

Ingredients
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup shortning (crisco)
- 2 - eggs
- 3 teaspoons baking powder
- 6 tablespoons cocoa powder
- 1 1/4 cups milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 1/4 cups ap flour
- ICING
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
- 2 tablespoons shorting (crisco)
- - hot coffee (strong) enough to melt crisco start with 3 tbsp
How To Make mom's chocolate scratch mocha layered cake

Step 1Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Seperate egg yolks from whites set whites aside. Cream shortning vanilla and sugar add add egg yolks and milk by hand.

Step 2in a seperate bowl sift flour, baking powder and cocoa. add dry ingreedients to wet a little at a time.

Step 3fluff egg whites to soft peaks then fold into batter. Divide and pour batter into two round cake pans Bake for 30 minutes. Caution: Be sure to not disurb cakes they can fall!! Let cool before icing cake.

Step 4To make mocha icing: mix shortning with hot coffee then add powder sugar and cocoa if too thin add a little more powder sugar.
