mom's apple crumb cake
I always remember my mom making this when we were having company. It's one of those cakes that tastes even better the longer it sits. She would cut it into squares and place it on a pretty plate and sprinkle it with powdered sugar. It was always one of my favorites. As a matter of fact, I'm having some friends over next week...I think I'll make this!!!! ;-)

Ingredients
- BATTER
- 1/2 cup butter - room temperature
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 - eggs
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 3/4 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 cup milk
- 2 cans comstock brand apple pie filling
- CRUMB TOPPING
- 3 cups flour
- 3 sticks butter - room temperature
- 1 1/2 cups light brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
How To Make mom's apple crumb cake

Step 1To make the batter:

Step 2In a large mixing bowl, cream the butter, sugar, eggs and vanilla.

Step 3In a separate bowl, combine the flour, salt, and baking powder.

Step 4Alternate the dry ingredients and milk into butter mixture until well blended.

Step 5Spread batter into greased 10 x 13 inch baking pan.

Step 6Spread two cans of apple pie filling over batter and sprinkle with the cinnamon.

Step 7To make the crumb topping:

Step 8Mix flour, butter, brown sugar and cinnamon with hands and shape into a ball. Pull pieces from ball and place on top of cake. Should be enough crumbs to cover the entire top of the cake. The crumbs don't need to be perfect.

Step 9Bake for 1 hour at 350 degrees.

Step 10Let cool in the oven.

Step 11Cool completely before cutting into squares. Sprinkle with powdered sugar just before serving.
