CLASSIC MISSISSIPPI MUD CAKE RECIPE (SALLYE)

Ingredients

2 call purpose flour

2 csugar
-
1 tspbaking soda
-
1/2 tspsalt

2 stickbutter
-
1/3 ccocoa powder
-
1 cwater
-
1/2 cbuttermilk
-
2 largeeggs, slightly beaten
-
1 tspvanilla extract
-
8 ozmini marshmallows
-
FROSTING
-
1 stickbutter
-
1/3 ccocoa powder
-
1/2 cbuttermilk
-
16 ozconfectioners sugar
-
1 tspvanilla extract
-
1 pinchsalt
-
3/4 cchopped nuts
How to Make CLASSIC MISSISSIPPI MUD CAKE RECIPE (SALLYE)
- Preheat oven to 350º
Lightly grease 9x13 baking pan - CAKE DIRECTIONS:
Sift flour, sugar, baking soda and salt into a medium mixing bowl. Set aside
Melt butter in small sauce pan; when melted, add cocoa and water and bring to a boil
Add boiling cocoa mixture to dry ingredients and stir until just combined
Add buttermilk, eggs, and vanilla and stir until smooth
Pour into greased pan and bake 35-40 minutes until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean
Remove from oven onto cooling rack
!!DO NOT REMOVE CAKE FROM PAN!!
Sprinkle marshallows evenly onto hot cake - FROSTING DIRECTIONS:
Melt butter in medium saucepan; when melted add cocoa powder and buttermilk
Bring to boil, then remove from heat
Add powdered sugar, vanilla and salt stirring until very smooth
Pour over marshmallows on hot cake
Sprinkle with nuts - This cake is best served warm with a big old scoop of Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla Ice cream
