mayonnaise cake (from the 1970's)

This is the recipe I used many times when my children were little. Moist, flavorful, and it held together for making cut-up cakes ( let's see, there was Snoopy, A Jupiter-C missile, A big daisy, a witch, and a few others. ....memories!

Ingredients

  • 3 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1/3 cup cocoa powder, (the brown container with the h)
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 1/2 cups mayonnaise, good quality not generic
  • 1 1/2 cups water or coffee
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla

How To Make mayonnaise cake (from the 1970's)

  • Step 1
    Preheat oven to 350f.
  • Step 2
    Mix dry ingredients by sifting or stirring well.
  • Step 3
    Blend in mayonnaise.
  • Step 4
    Gradually, beat in water (or coffee) and vanilla.
  • Step 5
    Beat until smooth.
  • Step 6
    Grease and flour the pans. Add a waxed paper liner to the bottom.
  • Step 7
    Bake in the 350 f. oven for 30 minutes.
