Growing up o the West coast I had never even heard of this cake let alone taste it. When I went home with my husband for the first time to Columbus, Georgia I had it at his mom's house. Oh my word! It is my favorite for sure.

Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups flour
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 2 - eggs
- 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 bottle red food coloring
- 1 cup butter
- 1 cup buttermilk
How To Make mary's red velvet cake

Step 1Cream butter and sugar together. Add buttermilk and flour to sugar mixture alternately beginning and ending with buttermilk. Add everything else. Pour into a 13x9 pan or 3 round cake pans. Bake at 350* for 30 minutes. Let cake cool completely before frosting.

Step 2Frosting: 1 Box of powdered sugar. 10 oz., 8 oz. cream cheese, 1 stick of butter, 1 t. vanilla. Chopped pecans for the top.
