This cake was an inexpensive way for us to have a delicious dessert when I was little. My mother made it frequently. It was always very moist and delicious.

  • 1 cup Flou c
    self rising flour
  • 1 cup Suga c
    white sugar
  • 1 tsp Soda tsp
    baking soda
  • Salt pinch
    table salt
  • 1 egg
    fresh egg
  • Fruit
    fruit cocktail, canned 303
  • 1 tsp tube(s)
    pure vanilla extract

How to Make Margaret's Fruit Cocktail Cake


  1. Mix flour sugar, soda, salt and egg in mixing bowl
  2. Add one cup drained fruit cocktail
  3. Pour into ungreased 9in square pan
  4. Mix brown sugar and nuts together and sprinkle over top.
  5. Put into a 350 degree oven and bake for 45 minutes.
  6. Serve with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream
