Ingredients

  • 1 c
    shortening
  • 2 c
    sugar
  • 4
    eggs
  • 3 c
    flour
  • 1/2 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 1 c
    buttermilk
  • 2 1/2 Tbsp
    lemon juice
  • 2 1/2 Tbsp
    lemon juice
  • ·
    powdered sugar

How to Make Lemon Pound Cake

Step-by-Step

  1. Cream shortening and sugar.
  2. Add eggs one at a time, beating after each addition.
  3. Sift together flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt.
  4. Add alternately with buttermilk to creamed mixture.
  5. Add 2 1/2 tablespoons lemon juice and beat with mixer for 2 minutes.
  6. Bake in tube pan for 1 hour at 300 degrees.
  7. Add glaze of 2 1/2 tablespoons of lemon juice and enough powdered sugar to spread easily.
