This is a great frosting for your favorite lemon cake. You can use orange zest instead of lemon.

12 ounces cream cheese, chilled
1/4 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
2 cups powdered sugar
2 teaspoons lemon zest
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 tablespoons sour cream

How to Make Lemon Cream Cheese Frosting


  • 1In the bowl of a stand mixer with a paddle attachment, beat the cream cheese with the butter until thoroughly combined. Beat in the sugar and then the lemon zest, vanilla and sour cream.
  • 2Cover and refrigerate for about 30 minutes before using to frost cake. (will keep in an air tight containter in the refrigerator for one week).
