How to Make Gelatin Cake

Step-by-Step

  1. Bake a white cake according to directions
  2. As soon as you pull the cake out of the oven use poke holes all across the top at varying depths with either the handle of a wooden spoon or a chopstick
  3. Prepare your favorite flavor gelatin according to package directions and allow to cool. When cooled, pour gelatin over cake
  4. In a large bowl add whipped topping and fold in powdered sugar and almond extract and a few drops of food coloring if desired. Chill topping until cake is completely cooled then spread lavishly on top
  5. Optional - If desired prepare pudding as a second layer that can be spread on completely chilled cake, then top with whipped topping
  6. Garnish with candies, fruit, or sprinkles as desired
