This is directly from the beloved actress Katharine Hepburn. I had written it down a long time ago. Apparently this is her family's recipe. These brownies are delicious and go great with some vanilla ice cream and hot fudge. Best eaten especially while watching a drama starring the famed actress! A must to add to your brownie recipe collections! I triple this recipe to make more, brownies don't last long in our house!

Ingredients

1 stick
butter
2
chocolate, unsweetened squares
1 c
sugar
2
eggs
1/2 tsp
pure vanilla extract
1/4 c
all purpose flour
1/4 tsp
salt
1 c
chopped nuts (optional)

Step-By-Step

1Melt together 1 stick butter and 2 squares unsweetened chocolate and take the saucepan off the heat.
2Stir in 1 cup sugar, add 2 eggs and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla, and beat the mixture well.
3Stir in 1/4 cup all-purpose flour and 1/4 teaspoon salt. (In the original recipe, 1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans is added here as well.)
4Bake the brownies in a buttered and floured 8-inch-square pan at 325°F for about 35-40 minutes.
