Set oven for moderate 350 degrees. Grease an 8 x 8 x 2 inch cake pan. Sift together the flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves; set aside. Cream the butter until softened. Add the honey gradually, continuing to beat thoroughly. Add the egg and beat well. Add the sifted dry ingredients a little at a time, alternately with the buttermilk. Stir just enough to mix well. Pour into the greased pan. Bake 40-45 minutes or until the top of the cake springs back when lightly touched. Let stand in the pan about 10 minutes, remove and cool on a wire rack. Frost as desired.
