homemade funnel cake

Texas Rodeo is coming to town but I can't wait two weeks to get my hands on one of my favorite desserts so I make my own. The funnel cakes are to die for at the carnivals!

yield makes four funnel cakes or one very large Texas size!

Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cups unsifted flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 - egg
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 cups cooking oil
  • CAN USE A SAUCEPAN OR FRYING PAN FOR DEEP FRYING. YOU CAN USE A SMALL PITCHER TO POUR OUT THE MIX INTO THE HOT OIL OR A MEASURING CUP.ANYTHING WITH A SPOUT WILL WORK.

How To Make homemade funnel cake

  • Step 1
    In a large bowl, combine the first 5 ingredients and the cinnamon. Mix well. Add milk and egg to dry mix. Stir until batter is smooth.
  • Step 2
    Using a deep fry thermometer to monitor the oil's temperature,heat oil to 350 degrees. When oil is heated, start pouring mix around in a circle going around 4-5 times, then zig,zig across center to fill in holes. When funnel cakes starts to brown, use tongs to flip over and brown other side. Browning should take 30-40 seconds. Lift funnel cake out of oil with tongs and let excess oil drip into pan and transfer to plate. sprinkle with powdered sugar or garnish with your favorite topping. Enjoy!
