Hershey's Chocolate Cake

This weekend we hosted a mystery dinner party and I decided to make this chocolate cake for dessert.

This is not a rich chocolate cake but it is good. If you're looking for simple, easy and chocolate - this will fit the bill.

  • 2 c
  • 1 3/4 c
    all purpose flour
  • 3/4 c
    hershey's cocoa
  • 1 1/2 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1 tsp
  • 2
  • 1 c
  • 1/2 c
    vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp
    vanilla extract
  • 1 c
    boiling water

  • 1 stick
    butter or margarine
  • 2/3 c
    hershey's cocoa
  • 3 c
    powdered sugar
  • 1/3 c
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla extract

How to Make Hershey's Chocolate Cake


  1. Heat oven to 350 degrees and flour two 9 inch round baking pans
  2. Stir together sugar, flour, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda and salt in large bowl.
  3. Add eggs, milk, oil and vanilla, beat on medium speed of mixer two minutes
  4. Stir in boiling water (batter will be thin). Pour into prepared pans.
  5. Bake 30 - 35 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean.
  6. Cool 10 minutes; remove from pans to wire racks. Cool completely.
  8. Melt butter then stir in cocoa.
  9. Alternately add powdered sugar and milk, beat to spreading consistently. Add small amount of milk if necessary.
  10. Stir in vanilla. Makes about 2 cups frosting.
