hershey's chocolate cake

This weekend we hosted a mystery dinner party and I decided to make this chocolate cake for dessert. This is not a rich chocolate cake but it is good. If you're looking for simple, easy and chocolate - this will fit the bill. Original recipe is on the Hershey's cocoa container.

Ingredients

  • CAKE
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 3/4 cups all purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup hershey's cocoa
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 - eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • FROSTING
  • 1 stick butter or margarine
  • 2/3 cup hershey's cocoa
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

How To Make hershey's chocolate cake

  • Step 1
    Heat oven to 350 degrees and flour two 9 inch round baking pans
  • Step 2
    Stir together sugar, flour, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda and salt in large bowl.
  • Step 3
    Add eggs, milk, oil and vanilla, beat on medium speed of mixer two minutes
  • Step 4
    Stir in boiling water (batter will be thin). Pour into prepared pans.
  • Step 5
    Bake 30 - 35 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean.
  • Step 6
    Cool 10 minutes; remove from pans to wire racks. Cool completely.
  • Step 7
    FROSTING
  • Step 8
    Melt butter then stir in cocoa.
  • Step 9
    Alternately add powdered sugar and milk, beat to spreading consistently. Add small amount of milk if necessary.
  • Step 10
    Stir in vanilla. Makes about 2 cups frosting.
