heirloom fresh applesauce cake

This recipe come from a 1920's cookbook. It's really good with fresh apples. Since this is apple season I thought you could use this great cake. I use Honey Crisp Apples when in season. Of course, any cooking apple will do. Even store bought apple sauce will do. It's so moist,no icing is necessary. I put this up there with my Best Carrot Cake Ever recipe and my Contest winning Rhubarb Coffee Cake. My friends and family love it. It's fabulous!

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups All purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon Baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 teaspoons Ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup Vegetable oil
  • 2 1/2 cups Applesauce
  • 2 - Large eggs
  • 1 cup Finely chopped walnuts (optional)
  • - *i take 4 large fresh unpeeled apples and 1/8 cup sugar in a food processor to make a chunky consistency fresh applesauce

How To Make heirloom fresh applesauce cake

  • Step 1
    Preheat oven 350 degrees.
  • Step 2
    Grease a 9x13 baking pan.
  • Step 3
    In large bowl SIFT flour, sugar, salt, baking soda baking powder, and cinnamon.
  • Step 4
    In another bowl, mix with a mixer the oil, apple sauce and eggs. Pour mixture in the dry ingredients and mix with mixer until blended. Add nuts and stir.
  • Step 5
    Pour into prepared pan. Bake 35 minutes. Cool and serve plain or with a very light dusting of powdered sugar.
