    sugar
  • 1/2 c
    butter
  • 1 c
    brown sugar, light
  • 2 1/4 c
    all purpose flour
  • 1/2 c
    cocoa, unsweetened
  • 1 1/2 tsp
    baking soda
  • 3/4 c
    coffee, strong and cold
  • FROSTING INGREDIENTS

  • 6 Tbsp
    butter
  • 1 lb
    powdered sugar, well sifted
  • 3 Tbsp
    cocoa, unsweetened
  • 3 Tbsp
    hazelnut liqueur
  • 2 Tbsp
    coffee, hot

How to Make Hazelnut Chocolate Cake with Frosting

Step-by-Step

  1. Grease and flour two 9" cake pans; preheat oven to 350.
  2. Separate eggs.
  3. Beat egg whites until frothy; then beat in sugar until stiff peaks form and set aside.
  4. Cream butter and brown sugar until fluffy; beat in yolks one at a time.
  5. Sift flour, cocoa and baking soda together; add to creamed mixture alternately with coffee and hazelnut liqueur, blend well.
  6. Fold egg whites into batter; pour into prepared pans and bake 30-35 minutes or until done.
  7. Cool 10 minutes then invert on wire racks and remove pans; cool before frosting.
  8. FROSTING: Cream butter with sugar; add everything else and beat until smooth.
