Most cultures have some type of tea cake, and this is an old-fashioned Southern recipe. These are simple cake-like butter cookies that are buttery and not overly sweet. In the olden days, these were served with afternoon tea. This excellent tea cake recipe makes a small batch of cookies and tastes like they came from a bakery.

Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1 large egg
- 3 tablespoons milk
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
How To Make granny's old-fashion tea cakes

Step 1Cream butter; add sugar and a well-beaten egg. Add salt and vanilla extract.

Step 2Sift flour and baking powder.

Step 3Alternate adding the flour mixture.

Step 4Then the milk.

Step 5Continue until everything is mixed.

Step 6Roll 1/8 inch thick and cut with a biscuit cutter.

Step 7Bake on a parchment-lined baking sheet at 350 degrees for 10 to 15 minutes.
