This recipe was my GrandMother in Law's. It was a staple at her house. Whenever you went there, it was on the table. I don't know why she called it "Man's Cake" but everyone seemed to like it. She always served it without the glaze. I post this in honor of her. We Lost her a little over a year ago & her Birthday was March 16. RIP Granny Thomas, We Love & Miss You.

  • 5
    eggs
  • 1 3/4 c
    sugar
  • 1 c
    shortening
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla extract
  • pinch
    salt
  • 2 c
    self- rising flour
  • GLAZE

  • 2 c
    powdered sugar
  • 3-4 Tbsp
    milk
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla extract
  • 1 Tbsp
    butter (optional)

How to Make Granny Thomas' Man's Cake

Step-by-Step

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  2. Mix eggs, sugar, shortening, vanilla & salt together. Add flour and mix well.
  3. grease and flour (I use Bakers Joy) bundt pan. Pour cake batter into pan. Bake 30-35 minutes or until done
  4. Glaze
  5. Stir together powdered sugar, 3 tablespoons of milk and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract until smooth, adding another tablespoon of milk if necessary for desired consistency.
  6. Drizzle over cake as desired
