This recipe is from my mother-in-law. She had added it to a hometown recipe book that was published for a fundraiser. "The Art of Cooking in Egg Harbor City" (NJ). No date is on the book, so I don't know exactly when it was printed. I've written the directions exactly as she had them listed. :)

Ingredients

  • CAKE:
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 - eggs, separated
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • CRUMBS:
  • 4 tablespoons flour
  • 4 tablespoons sugar (2 brown & 2 white)
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons cinnamon

How To Make grandmom elaine's crumb cake

  • Step 1
    Combine butter, brown & white sugar, and cinnamon to make crumbs. Set aside and make the cake.
  • Step 2
    Cream butter, then gradually add sugar, then add the egg yolks.
  • Step 3
    Mix alternately with milk and sifted dry ingredients.
  • Step 4
    Add vanilla and lastly fold in stiffly beaten egg whites.
  • Step 5
    Pour batter and sprinkle on crumbs.
  • Step 6
    Bake in a preheated oven, at 350 degrees, for 35 minutes.
