My grandmother used to make these all the time for me when I was young. She finally gave me the recipe and I have been making them since! They are super moist and just incredible. Have one in the morning with your coffee or warm one up and place vanilla ice cream on top for dessert!

These apple bars belong smack-dab in the delicious intersection of breakfast and dessert... the two most important meals of the day! We're not sure if these are classified as a brownie. To us, they have the texture of a cake. But they're divine. Once baked, a sugary crust forms on top. There are bits of tender apples and cinnamon in every bite. Yum!

Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 cups apples
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/3 cup orange juice
  • 2 - eggs
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt

How To Make grandma's secret apple brownies!

  • Oven preheating.
    Step 1
    Preheat oven to 325. Grease and flour 9x13 pan.
  • Chopping cored apples.
    Step 2
    Peel and core about 3 to 4 apples. Finely chop apples (you want the pieces small).
  • Flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon whisked together in a bowl.
    Step 3
    In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon. Whisk together.
  • Eggs, oil, and orange juice added to the bowl.
    Step 4
    Add eggs, oil, and orange juice. Mix well. I use a wooden spoon to mix.
  • Folding in the apples.
    Step 5
    Fold in diced apples (the batter will be thick).
  • Batter spread in pan.
    Step 6
    Spread into the prepared baking pan.
  • Bars baking in the oven.
    Step 7
    Bake at 325 for approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour.
