grandma's chocolate kraut cake

I found this recipe in my Grandma's recipes , I have not had this in years , I liked it when my grandma made it But that was years ago....anyone want to try it out ? ***untried recipe by me ***

Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups all purpose flour ; sifted
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 2/3 cup shortening
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 3 - eggs
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup well drained chopped sauerkraut

How To Make grandma's chocolate kraut cake

  • Step 1
    Sift together flour , soda , baking powder ,salt and cocoa.
  • Step 2
    Cream shortening and sugar until fluffy ; Add vanilla and blend.
  • Step 3
    Add eggs ; 1 @ a time beating well.
  • Step 4
    Add flour mixture , alternately with the water ; beating until smooth.
  • Step 5
    Mix in the Sauerkraut.
  • Step 6
    Bake @ 375° for 35 minutes or until done.
  • Step 7
    **There is no taste of sauerkraut flavor in this cake **
