I found this recipe in my late Grandma's recipe box shortly after my mother passed away. It was from my Great Grandmother. It's a wonderfully moist cake that I hope you will enjoy.

Ingredients

  • 3 c
    applesauce, unsweetened
  • 4 c
    flour
  • 1 c
    raisins
  • 1 c
    dates and cherries
  • 2 c
    nuts
  • 2 c
    sugar
  • 1 c
    melted shortening
  • 2 tsp
    soda
  • 2 tsp
    nutmeg
  • 2 tsp
    cloves
  • 2 tsp
    cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp
    salt
  • 1/2 c
    pineapple
  • 1
    egg

How to Make Grandma's Applesauce Cake

Step-by-Step

  1. Sift flour, soda ,salt, add raisins,dates, cherries and nuts set aside
  2. Beat egg with the sugar then add applesauce,spices,pineapple and melted shortening
  3. Combine dry ingredents with the wet mix well. Place in greased and floured bunt pan. Bake at 300 degrees for 1 1/2 hours. Insert toothpick to check for doneness.
