I love to make this at christmas time because the smell of the spices cooking is great. I also like to add candied fruit and make loaves of fruitcake in my bread pans with this recipe.

baking soda
1 tsp
salt

walnuts

How to Make Grandma Whites Applesauce Cake

Step-by-Step

  • 1Put first six ingredients in a saucepan,bring to a boil and then set aside to cool. In a bowl, mix shortening applesauce and eggs. I use an electric mixer.Add flour,soda and salt adding cooled raisen and spice mixture alternately as it is a pretty thick cake.Add walnuts. Pour in a 9x13 greased and lightly floured cake pan and bake on 350 degrees for 50 minutes to an hour.
