Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon nutmeg
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 2 - eggs
- 1/2 cup butter, melted
- 1/2 cup raisins (optional)
- 1/2 cup walnuts, chopped (optional)
- 4 cups apples, peeled and diced
How To Make grandma taylor's apple cake
-
Step 1Blend together sugar, eggs and butter.
-
Step 2In a separate large bowl sift together the dry ingredients, then add the nuts and raisins to the flour mixture.
-
Step 3Add the egg mixture to the flour mixture.
-
Step 4Blend in the apples. Note - the mixture will be VERY thick and sticky, and it may look like you have way too many apples, but don't worry that's how it should look.
-
Step 5Pour into a greased and floured 9x9 inch pan. Bake 350 degrees for 1 hour, or until done.
-
Step 6Glaze - The recipe just says mix together powder sugar and apple juice, so I'm guessing at the amounts, but try 1 C powder sugar and 2 Tbl apple juice. The glaze should be on the thick side, spread over the cake while it is hot. It will thin out once it's on the cake. Alternatively, you can just dust the top of the cake with powder sugar, it's good either way.
