This recipe is from my husband's grandmother Mabel. Everytime I make it I'm asked for the recipe.

Ingredients
- COMBINE & LET STAND FOR 20 MINUTES
- 1 1/2 cups quick cooking oats
- 2 1/4 cups boiling water
- CREAM:
- 1 1/2 sticks butter, softened
- 1 1/2 cups white sugar
- ADD:
- 1 1/2 cups brown sugar, firmly packed
- 3 - eggs, beaten
- ADD OATS AND THE FOLLOWING SIFTED TOGETHER:
- 2 cups flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 3/8 teaspoon salt
- ADD:
- 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- ICING:
- 1 1/2 cups brown sugar, firmly packed
- 1 1/2 cups coconut, shredded
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 6 teaspoons butter, melted
How To Make grandma mabel's oatmeal cake

Step 1Bake 50 minutes at 350 degrees in well greased and floured 9 x 11 or 9 x 13 pan.

Step 2After cake cools add icing (see above) and broil for a few minutes until bubbly and golden brown.
