In 1995 I worked part-time assisting an elderly woman, who needed a little help cleaning, and occasionally going to shop with her. Mary was an elegant, intelligent lady, formerly a nurse, and a wonderful cook. when her husband died, she lived alone, still enjoyed a cocktail in the afternoons, and she made herself wonderful meals using fresh fish, and often home baked cookies, pies and cakes. She still entertained old friends at lunch or for dinner, and this is a dessert she served.
