This recipe has been in our family for many (over 70 yrs) years. We watched her make this but never had the recipe written down. Then my Step-father watched it being made and measured for ingred. so we could pass it down. It is very good always works and can be made into cake or muffins. The best cake to use as Pineapple Upside Down.

- 2 cups sugar
- 2/3 cup shortening
- 2 large eggs
- 1 1/2 cups buttermilk
- 1/2 teaspoon soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 2 1/2 cups flour all purpose
- 1 or 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
