When I was employed, this was my "go-to" recipe when I had an office pot-luck. I've even made it for bake sales. Everyone loves it.

Ingredients

  • 1 - yellow cake mix, any brand
  • 1 stick butter or margarine, softened
  • 3 - eggs (divided)
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1 pound powdered sugar

How To Make gooey butter cake

  • Step 1
    FIRST LAYER: Mix 1 beaten egg, cake mix and butter together and crumble in bottom of a 9 X 13-inch greased pan. Do not bake.
  • Step 2
    SECOND LAYER: Mix 2 beaten eggs and cream cheese together. Slowly add powdered sugar until mixed in. Carefully spread over first layer.
  • Step 3
    Bake at 325° for 45 minutes.
