I don't know where this came from, but found it stuck in an old family scrap books. I don't make it very often because I can't stay out of it.

Ingredients

2 c
cake flour
3 tsp
baking powder
1 tsp
salt
1 1/4 c
sugar
3/4 c
milk
1 tsp
vanilla extract
2
eggs
baked on topping as follows
2
egg whites
1 c
brown sugar
3/4 c
pecans, chopped
1/2 c
shortening

How to Make Gone With The Wind Cake

Step-by-Step

  • 1All ingredients should be at room temperature.
  • 2Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • 3Sift and measure flour.
  • 4Add baking powder, salt, sugar, and sift again into large mixer bowl.
  • 5Add shortening, milk, and vanilla. Beat 2 minutes.
  • 6Add unbeaten eggs, and beat 1 minute more.
  • 7Pour into greased 9 x 13" pan.
  • 8BAKED ON TOPPING.
    Beat egg whites until stiff but not dry.
  • 9Gradually add brown sugar and beat until well mixed.
  • 10Spread over the top of the cake batter, sprinkle with nute and bake for 35 minutes.
