My mother use to make a gingerbread cake every Christmas. This recipe was handed down from my grandmother who was a pastry chef.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 c
    shortening
  • 1/2 c
    sugar
  • 1
    egg
  • 1 c
    molasses
  • 3 c
    cake flour
  • 1-1/2 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 1 tsp
    cinnamon
  • 1 tsp
    ginger powder
  • 1/2 tsp
    cloves
  • 3/4 c
    hot water

How to Make Gingerbread cake

Step-by-Step

  1. Pre heat oven to 375.
    Beat together the shortening and sugar until creamy.
  2. Beat in egg and molasses.
  3. Mix all the dry ingredients together before adding to the top four ingredients. Mix until moist. Add hot water and beat until very creamy.
  4. Pour batter into a grease and flour 8 x 8 baking pan.
