My mother use to make a gingerbread cake every Christmas. This recipe was handed down from my grandmother who was a pastry chef.

Ingredients
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 - egg
- 1 cup molasses
- 3 cups cake flour
- 1-1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon ginger powder
- 1/2 teaspoon cloves
- 3/4 cup hot water
How To Make gingerbread cake

Step 1Pre heat oven to 375. Beat together the shortening and sugar until creamy.

Step 2Beat in egg and molasses.

Step 3Mix all the dry ingredients together before adding to the top four ingredients. Mix until moist. Add hot water and beat until very creamy.

Step 4Pour batter into a grease and flour 8 x 8 baking pan.
