Ingredients For gingerbread brownie bars

1/2 cbutter or margarine or solid shortening

1 lgegg

1/2 cmolasses

1 3/4 call purpose flour or a little more

1/2 tspsalt

1 1/2 tspbaking powder

1/4 tspbaking soda
-
1 tspcinnamon
-
1/2 tspground cloves
-
1/2 cwhiskey or strong coffee

juice of 1/2 lemon

1 Tbsplemon zest, grated

1/2 tspanise oil or 1 teas. anise extract

powdered sugar icing and pieces of dried fruit or a nut for garnish
How To Make gingerbread brownie bars

1Heat oven to 350^. Spray or grease a 9x13-inch pan. Set aside. Cream butter and sugar until fluffy;add beaten egg, whiskey, lemon juice and molasses. Mix well.

2Sift together dry ingredients and add to butter mixture. Stir in anise oil, and lemon zest. Mix well and pour into prepared pan. Bake 25 minutes.

3Make a powdered sugar icing or glaze and frost while warm and top each piece with a nut, cherry, or dried or candied fruit for garnish.
