Ingredients

1 1/2 c
flour
1/2 tsp
salt
1/2 tsp
baking soda
3/4 tsp
cinnamon
3/4 tsp
ginger
1/2 tsp
allspice
1/2 c
shortening
1/2 c
boiling water
1/2 c
brown sugar, firmly packed
1/2 c
dark molasses
1
egg, slightly beaten

How to Make Ginger bread

Step-by-Step

  • 1Combine flour, salt, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, ginger and allspice in mixing bowl; set aside .
    Combine shortening and boiling water in large bowl; blend in brown sugar, molasses and egg.
    Add dry ingredients gradually ; mix till thoroughly combined.
    Pour batter into greased 8 or 9 inch square pan. Bake at 350* for 30 to 40 minutes or until wooden toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
    Serve with whipped cream.
