Ingredients For ginger bread

  • 1 1/2 c
    flour
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 1/2 tsp
    baking soda
  • 3/4 tsp
    cinnamon
  • 3/4 tsp
    ginger
  • 1/2 tsp
    allspice
  • 1/2 c
    shortening
  • 1/2 c
    boiling water
  • 1/2 c
    brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1/2 c
    dark molasses
  • 1
    egg, slightly beaten

How To Make ginger bread

  • 1
    Combine flour, salt, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, ginger and allspice in mixing bowl; set aside . Combine shortening and boiling water in large bowl; blend in brown sugar, molasses and egg. Add dry ingredients gradually ; mix till thoroughly combined. Pour batter into greased 8 or 9 inch square pan. Bake at 350* for 30 to 40 minutes or until wooden toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Serve with whipped cream.
