I received this recipe from an old friend of the family, When I was just 11 years old she made it for us for the first time.

Ingredients

  • SIFT TOGETHER
  • 4 cups all purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cloves
  • 1 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon allspice, ground
  • CREAM TOGETHER
  • 1/2 pound butter
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 6 - eggs (one at a time)
  • ADD ALTERNATING TO FLOUR MIXTURE
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda (disolved in 1 1/4 c. buttermilk or sour cream)
  • THEN ADD:
  • 2 pounds pecan halves
  • 1 can #303 crushed pinapple, drained
  • 2 pounds red cherries, candied
  • 1/2 pound white or golden raisens
  • 1 quart smuckers appricot preserves

How To Make german fruit cake

  • Step 1
    Bake in 2-3 8 inch layer round pans.Bake 350 for 1 1/2 hours or until pick comes our clean.
  • Step 2
    Frosting: 2 cups evaporated milk (canned cream) 2 cups sugar 6 egg yolks (only) 1/2 pound butter Cook & stir constantly over medium heat until thick (about 12 minutes) Remove from heat and add: 1 teaspoon vanilla 2 cups chopped pecans 2 cups flaked coconut Beat until thick and cooled Spread on cake.
