I found this recipe in a 1987 Lutheran church cookbook..

Ingredients

  • 1 pkg
    cake mix, german chocolate
  • 1/3 c
    evaporated milk
  • 3/4 c
    butter, melted
  • 1 pkg
    14oz. caramels
  • 1 c
    chocolate chips
  • 1/2 c
    choppd nuts if desired (pecans,walnuts)

How to Make German Chocolate Caramel Brownies

Step-by-Step

  1. Mix the first 3 ingredients. Put half (or a little less) of the mixture in a 9x13" pan.
  2. Bake at 350* for 6 minutes. Melt package of caramels on low heat or in microwave. Put 1/3 cup evaporated milk with the caramels.
  3. Pour the caramel mixture over the chocolate mixture when you remove it from the oven..Sprinkle the chocolate chips over the caramel mixture and chopped nuts.
  4. Put the rest of the cake mix on top, you may need to add a little more milk to the mixture if hard to spread. Bake for 18-20 min. more..Enjoy....
