I found this recipe in a 1987 Lutheran church cookbook..

Ingredients

  • 1 package cake mix, german chocolate
  • 1/3 cup evaporated milk
  • 3/4 cup butter, melted
  • 1 package 14oz. caramels
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup choppd nuts if desired (pecans,walnuts)

How To Make german chocolate caramel brownies

  • Step 1
    Mix the first 3 ingredients. Put half (or a little less) of the mixture in a 9x13" pan.
  • Step 2
    Bake at 350* for 6 minutes. Melt package of caramels on low heat or in microwave. Put 1/3 cup evaporated milk with the caramels.
  • Step 3
    Pour the caramel mixture over the chocolate mixture when you remove it from the oven..Sprinkle the chocolate chips over the caramel mixture and chopped nuts.
  • Step 4
    Put the rest of the cake mix on top, you may need to add a little more milk to the mixture if hard to spread. Bake for 18-20 min. more..Enjoy....
