funnel cake
Bring the county fair home. These are exactly what you get at any fair or carnival. I've made these for our block party and was a huge hit!! * I know that these are called FUNNEL cakes but using a funnel can be awkward and messy. I've found that using a plastic squeeze bottle with a wide spout works great.(I used an empty margarita mix bottle that had a pour spout)

Ingredients
- BATTER MIX
- 1 - egg , beaten
- 2/3 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 1/4 cups all purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- OIL OR SHORTENING FOR FRYING
- POWDERED SUGAR FOR TOPPING
How To Make funnel cake
-
Step 1Mix Egg and Milk together. Sift dry ingredients together until well mixed. Gradually add dry mix to egg/milk mixture, beat until smooth.
-
Step 2Preheat oil in skillet to 375 degrees F I used an electric non-stick skillet but I had to increase the temperature (425+) to get correct browning without sogginess. Just adjust this as you see fit.
-
Step 3When oil is hot, drizzle slowly in a swirling motion crossing layers till it's about the size of salad plate. Fry to a deep golden brown then turn over and brown the other side. Remove and place on several paper towels to absorb the excess oil.
-
Step 4While your funnel cake is still hot add powdered sugar to suit your taste. Serve while still warm. You can add additional toppings such as : Flavored syrups Fresh or Canned Fruits Whipped Cream Etc.
