I have made this recipe for years, it is one of my favorites. I make it often for company because it is so quick and easy.

Ingredients

  • 1 c
    flour, sifted
  • 2 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 1/2 c
    sugar
  • 3/4 c
    walnuts, chopped
  • 1/2 c
    milk
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla extract
  • 2 Tbsp
    shortening, melted
  • 1 oz
    chocolate, unsweeted and melted
  • 1/4 c
    cocoa, unsweetened
  • 3/4 c
    brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1.75 c
    water, hot
  • ·
    whipped cream, optional

How to Make Fudge Pudding Cake

Step-by-Step

  1. Sift flour with baking powder, salt and sugar into bowl; add nuts, then stir in milk, vanilla, shortening and chocolate.
  2. Spread batter in greased 8-inch square pan.
  3. Mix cocoa with brown sugar, stir in hot water and pour over batter.
  4. Bake at 375 40 minutes - As pudding bakes, cake layer forms on top with rich sauce on bottom.
  5. Spoon warm pudding cake into dessert dishes and top with whipped cream (or ice cream!), if desired.
