My mom made this cake for us when I was growing up in the 50's and 60's. I made it for my family and it became a favorite of theirs too! Easy to make and very moist without the use of oil.

Ingredients
- 1 medium can fruit cocktail, in syrup
- 1 cup white sugar
- 1 - egg
- 1 cup flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- TOPPING,
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
- 1/2 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
How To Make fruit cocktail cake

Step 1Place fruit cocktail, including juice, into large bowl. Add white sugar and egg. Mix well, and then add dry ingredients.

Step 2Mix until well blended and spoon into a well greased 9" square cake pan.

Step 3Stir together chopped nuts and brown sugar. Add to top of cake batter. Lightly pat down. Bake until done, about 40 minutes at 350 degrees until lightly browned. Toothpick test does not work with this recipe.
