this recipe has been in my family for 5 generations. we make it for Christmas

Ingredients

  • 1 pound butter, softened
  • 1 pound brown sugar
  • 12 - eggs
  • 1 pound flour
  • 2 pounds golden raisins
  • 4 pounds candied mixed fruit
  • 2 1/2 pounds seedless dates chopped
  • 1 pound brazil nuts (optional)
  • 1 pound pecans
  • 1/2 pound english walnuts
  • 1/2 pound black walnuts
  • 1/2 pound almonds
  • 1 - jar strawberry jam
  • 1 - jar fig preserves
  • 1 - large apple (peeled and chopped)
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon, cloves, mace, and allspice
  • 3 cups apricot brandy..you can use any fruit flavor you want

How To Make fruit cake with a kick

  • Step 1
    soak candied fruit, apple, and raisins over night in the brandy.
  • Step 2
    chop and flour all the nuts. set aside
  • Step 3
    sift flour and spices together. cream butter, sugar, and eggs together then add to flour mix. fold in fruit, nuts, and preserves.
  • Step 4
    grease brown paper on both sides cut to fit either 1 tube pan or 4 loaf pans.
  • Step 5
    place pans in a water bath and bake at 275 degrees till a tooth pick comes out clean
  • Step 6
    use red and green candied cherries on top for decorations
