I create a new kind of layer cake recipe with a French vanilla custard on the cake filling. Made with French vanilla flavored liquid creamer.

Ingredients

  • CAKE
  • 1 box French vanilla cake mix
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 3 large egg whites
  • 3 tablespoons cane sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • FILLING
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup margarine
  • 1/2 cup cane sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons corn starch
  • 4 large egg yolks
  • 3/4 cup French vanilla liquid creamer
  • FROSTING
  • 1 tube frozen whipped topping, thawed
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 3/4 cup marshmallow creme
  • 3/4 cup French vanilla liquid creamer

How To Make french vanilla custard layer cake

  • Step 1
    Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Coat two 9 round cake pans with cooking spray.
  • Step 2
    Whisk the cake mix, water, vegetable oil, egg whites, cane sugar, and vanilla extract together in a large bowl for 3 minutes until combined.
  • Step 3
    Pour into prepared cake pans. Bake for 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool completely for 15 minutes.
  • Step 4
    For the filling, in a medium saucepan, add heavy cream, milk, margarine, cane sugar, and sea salt. Bring to a boil, stirring occasionally.
  • Step 5
    In a medium bowl, whisk water and corn starch until smooth. Then whisk in egg yolks. Pour into heavy cream mixture over medium heat and whisk until thickened for 5 minutes.
  • Step 6
    Remove from heat. Stir in liquid creamer. Reserve in 3/4 cup and set aside.
  • Step 7
    For the frosting, in another medium bowl, combine whipped topping, cream cheese, marshmallow creme, liquid creamer, and 3/4 cup custard mixture; mix well for 2 minutes until blended and smooth.
  • Step 8
    Place one layer of cake on the serving plate. Spread half of the custard mixture onto the cake.
  • Step 9
    Place a second cake on top. Spread the frosting on the sides of the cake.
  • Step 10
    Spread the remaining custard mixture on top of the cake. Refrigerate for 15 minutes before serving.
